Las Vegas … A Busy Day

You're never too old to learn something stupid.

We didn’t let any grass grow under our feet on the first full day we were in Las Vegas.  It wasn’t visiting the casinos.  We’ve been here, done that.  Now I’m not saying we won’t be visiting casinos but first things first.  We actually had an agenda.

We have reservations here for two weeks but not sure whether we'll stay two weeks or move on to Utah when Terry gets back from his doctor appointment in Portland.  We've been spoiled with some of our campsites this winter and the one we're in would make a sardine can seem empty.

Remember what I said yesterday about we were now missing paint down the side panel on our motorhome?  Well, we got the mix of the paint from Monaco.  It’s amazing how many different colors go into making one single color. However, we got all those mix numbers and then tried to locate a BSF paint distributor.

We found a distributor in Las Vegas. Have you ever bought a pint of matching paint for your motorhome?  Well, it wasn’t cheap.  The paint and a little paint thinner set us back a little over $80!!!  I’m glad we didn’t need a gallon. We still need to replace the taillight but that we'll probably have to order.

Next we headed out to Nellis Air Force Base.  Nellis is where the Thunderbirds practice during the winter for their air shows.

We wanted to check out the Thunderbirds and also the Famcamp.  Those pilots are certainly skilled and so beautiful to watch!!

Thanks to Sandie’s information about a new Winco opening up in Mesa, I checked to see if any new Wincos had opened in Las Vegas since we'd been here last year.

There had been!  Two new ones had opened just the day before.  This was their grand opening week!  Yippee!   Crowd control was in full force allowing only a few shoppers in the store at a time.  The line outside was long. Prices are normally great at Winco but during their sale they were even better.  Our basket was full and our wallets became very light.

The rest of day was spent doing laundry, making cornbread for our pot of pinto beans and sitting outside in the sun.  Now rumor has it that some of those Laughlin winds are heading this way.  The good thing is that it won't be every day as it is in Laughlin.   Every once in a while to have an inside day isn't bad.  It's just when they all end up being inside days that it gets old.

Tis life on the road.

  1. I knew the paint was expensive but WOW. The Winco just makes your visit to Las Vegas that much more perfect. If only you have a decent spot to park. We're getting wind today also and cold but it's not supposed to last. Check out the Mob Museum for me.

  2. Beautiful shots of the planes. I'd love to see their show some day.

Never been to a Winco, but if I see one, I'll stop to see what they have.

It's windy here in Quartzsite today, too. Just saw an empty gallon milk container blowing down the desert, and one of the women here chasing after it.

    Enjoy Las Vegas! :)

  3. Mmmm. Cornbread. One of the things for which I'll make an occasional exception to my no grains eating lifestyle. I'm suddenly wishing Cracker Barrel was closer. :)

  4. Very interested in your impression of the Nellis FamCamp. And if they let riff-raff like me in. ;c)

  5. We didn't have Nellis FamCamp on our "see" list for NV. Thanks for reminding us. ~wheresweaver
