Spring Flowers and Academic Awards

The mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.

Washington State is gorgeous in the spring.  Certainly there are rainy days but the rainy days aren’t all rainy.  There are lots of intermittent blue skies and gorgeous sunshine that comes between those April Showers.  I’m certain you’ve heard the saying April Showers bring May flowers.  Spring in the Pacific Northwest also means many spring flowers.

Woodland is home to the Holland Bulb Company’s tulip fields.  The tulip fields are close to where we have our storage shed. Making a drop off at the storage facility meant we were close to the tulips.  We drove by the fields just to see how the blooms were doing.  It was nearly dusk so it wasn’t a fair time to check but the tulips were there … just like we expected them to be.   The Tulip Fest starts in a few days so you'll be reading about this again.

Woodland is also known for it’s lilacs.  The lilacs aren't quite in bloom just yet but they will be soon.  Lilacs come in many different colors but one thing they all have in common is their fragrance.  We love this time of year in this area.  There are so many things to see and so many beautiful flowers to enjoy.

Elmer’s is a Pacific Northwest restaurant that uses local products of the Oregon-Washington area.  They also have some great seafood dishes.  I’ve been hungry for their BLT crab salad and that’s just what I had when we took Michael and Sandi there for dinner.  I was the only one with the crab salad but they aren’t as fond of crab salads as I am.  They just don't know what they're missing.

Evergreen High school has over 1800 students.  On Thursday 102 of those students were honored for academic achievement.  Michael and Sandi were invited to a special presentation at the high school and to receive an award.  We went to the event with Tammi and Robert.  Michael was  given an award in English and Sandi was given an award in mathematics.  And, as you might imagine, Grandma was busy taking pictures of the presentation …. most of them didn’t turn out.  Sandi was standing right behind the podium during her presentation and Michael’s photo was blurry.  However, Mom was there and I THINK her pictures turned out.  I wanted to borrow a few but haven’t seen them yet.

This is one picture I did get outside the school cafeteria.  Spring is here and all the beautiful blossoms are evidence of that.

It’s always nice getting together with family. This was a great night and we were happy to be able to share the event with Michael and Sandi.  Big congratulations to both of them for great work!

‘Tis life on the road.

  4. I just love those tulip fields!
And I am drooling looking at your crab salad picture. Too bad that they don't have developed an app yet to get it through the net to me :)) (Should think they could do it, considered the multitude of apps they have created)
Congrats to the kids, sorry, young adults!
