Depend on the rabbit's foot if you will, but remember it didn't work for the rabbit.
We had just had it. Our car was dirty. Actually, it was more than dirty. It was downright filthy with dust and the streaks. Unlike dirty clothes you can’t just take a car to a laundromat like you do clothes. If we could have loaded it on our laundry basket, we certainly would have done that. It seems folks in Quartzsite have missed out on one little gold mine. There is no car wash in town!
A trip to either Parker or Blythe was needed. Since we had gone to Blythe on the last trip, this time we decided to head towards Parker. Parker’s a little farther but they also have a Wal-mart there. Actually, there is even more in Parker than Blythe. There is a casino.
Terry calls donating at a casino a stupid tax because you pay it by choice. We stopped but didn’t stay long. I made a little contribution and then we left. He refuses to donate so I usually do it for both of us. However, the machines at the Blue Water Casino really don’t tempt me so it was a quick, small donation before we left. Now if we were in Yuma, I might have been in trouble because they do have machines I like.
The casino in Parker has penny machines and nickel machines but that doesn’t mean your stupid tax is going to be paid in just loose change. Each pull of that little handle or push of the button, can actually cost you more than the dollar machine. By the time they add a maximum bet with all the lines included, you can lose more (or contribute more) than a dollar machine
.
There were quite a few RVs parked on the lot around the casino. That's certainly not unusual to see in the south during the winter. We’ve pulled our motorhome into many casinos and parked for a night or two. Some are absolutely free, others are free if you play and some charge a nominal fee. We are very fond of those casino buffets. However, this year it might be a little different since Terry is working on cutting those carbs.
Right down the road from the casino is the Wal-mart. Our biggest donation was made there. That’s usually the case. We’ve also discovered that the free overnight parking on a Wal-mart lot is much more expensive than overnight parking at an RV park. The shopping trip inside the store for a few little supplies while you’re on the road usually adds up. That’s the voice of experience speaking.
Thursday we had a couple more rigs join us. Ed and Linda arrived and so did Steve and Carol. No. It wasn’t the Lavins. Mike and Deb will be pulling out again Friday morning but they’ll be back in about a week. Will we still be here?? It would have been a great night for a campfire but by the time we got back from our dinner out in town, it was dark and our newcomers still had setting up to do. So, this is a photo I “borrowed” from Toni --- Terry and I at another campfire a few days before.
‘Tis just life on the road.
Love the campfire, and I love even more with what is in your hand!
ReplyDeleteEd and Linda fit in so well. None of us knew them and now they are just part of the gang.
ReplyDeleteAh but can they sing like us!! Sorry to miss it this year, but with the repairs we have had to do this year, we just couldn't rationize the fuel costs. Hopefully, we will be there next year.
ReplyDeleteWe had good luck last year at Blue Water and they have BINGO!!!
I've never won at gambling. Except the one time the Lavins took me to play Bingo. Maybe you should show me the game you like sometime to see if I can change my luck there.
ReplyDeleteThe dirty old desert in Quartzsite but its worth it. And the casinos and walmarts are a necessary evil.
ReplyDeleteOur 2008 trip stopped in Vegas and a number of the Casino's helped pay for our stay while there.
ReplyDeleteWalmart may take your money right away but does have a slow payback in return.
It's about time.
So did you get the Jeep washed? lol Glad you guys are having such a good time. And say hi to Ed and Linda from us.
ReplyDeleteI like that amphibious off road vehicle. Just curious, where in Q do you launch a boat?
ReplyDeleteWith the price of fuel, I can't afford to gamble in even penny machines anymore. :c(
Oops, sorry about the double post. But not to waste another comment, that picture of you around the campfire is very nice.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm pretty sure I see a budding firebug in your eyes...
I agree about the stupid tax. I only play the video poker machines and only up to about $20, but haven't in years.
ReplyDeleteI'm a great American citizen...I willingly and smilingly (like that word?) contribute to the 'stupid tax'. All of the pennies I can save in my little jar!
