Quartzsite’s Desert

desert1

Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature.

The little desert has definitely come alive around Quartzsite.  Normally when that is said people think about all the desert flowers being in bloom when spring finally shows it’s face after the coolness of winter.  In this particular case it’s not spring and the desert flowers aren’t in bloom.  The desert is alive with people and lots of them.  However, that’s also not to say that there still isn’t room for many more.  There is.

Vendors are absolutely everywhere. You can buy rocks and gems and jewelry. Or, you can buy just about any RV part you need plus many you’ll never need. T-Shirts are hanging everywhere. Of course, the most popular shirts are the ones making fun of being trailer trash. If you’re looking for something, it’s probably here someplace. If not, just wait until the Big Tent is open. What’s not here now will surely be here then. The Big Tent is up but it’s just not open yet.

There are numerous gorgeous sunsets and sunrises in the desert. The sunsets are early enough that most can enjoy them. Beautiful red sunrises aren’t enjoyed by as many since folks have to be with the blinds open around 7:00 in order to catch those.  They are there just the same.

Once people find a place to park their RV some get busy and mark their territory.  The BLM has a restriction of some sort about RVs not parking within 15 feet of each other.  This is mainly for safety but who in the world wants to be on the BLM and be closer than they would at an RV park?   Some folks love the peace and quiet of the desert.  Others run generators most of the time.  Thus, it’s a good rule because it keeps them separated.  There are even those that rock off their areas.  The rocks are used similar to a fence.  Rocks are placed around to let others know not to move in.  It’s like staking a temporary claim.

Saying our farewells to Bea and Peter before they head out on their next adventure.

Terry and I even got a chance to take an ATV spin past the edge of the BLM boundary.  Speed limit inside the BLM is 15 but once you cross that line the urge to hit that accelerator sure steps in.  We checked out the wash and drove to the base of the mountains.  We weren’t gone long but just enough to get pretty dusty.  Actually, Terry is the only one that gets dusty since he follows me and eats my dust.

Yesterday we had another potluck.  Toni and Doug used to have a pizza shop.  Thus, pizza was the main feed while the rest of us contributed other items to the event. The pizza was absolutely delicious but Terry is still being so good so didn’t even try it. Tommy and Cougar (Darlene) from Congress, AZ joined our little event.

Then, as usual, the campfire was lit and we ended the day hanging around it. The sun went down and the only light we had was from the stars in the sky and the fire in front of us.

It was a good day.

‘Tis life on the road.

You must have a lead foot...er I mean thumb.

I guess when you're traveling on the road, Terry has you following him so he can get even. ;c)

  3. Terry needs to learn you can eat the pizza topping and leave the crust. Of course, you'd need to explain to Toni why he's leaving the crust. Wouldn't want to hurt her feelings.
