It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
Sitting on the BLM can be so peaceful. It seems most of us do very little other than talk and stare at all the stars in the sky at night. We enjoy the wide open desert, warm temperatures plus old and new friends. It’s like being on vacation.
So much space but so close
Sitting on the BLM and boondocking is so different than sitting at an RV park connected to electricity, water and dump. Sitting here means you’ve got to monitor your water usage and your batteries. We don’t have a good monitor which lets us know the charge level of our batteries. Actually, Terry didn’t realize he wanted one until Lee showed up with it. Then, of course, he had to have one. We checked around Quartzsite and no such luck. So, it was off to Starlight Solar in Yuma for a quick trip. We had friends coming in on Thursday so we wanted to be back. Besides it was on the east of Yuma which made the trip even easier.
Our first stop was at a fruit stand on the side of road shortly after entering Yuma. We always call Yuma the salad bowl capital because the fields are full of lettuce, cabbage and other fruits and vegetables this time of year. Then, it was on to Starlight Solar and Wal-mart. Needless to say, it was a very expensive trip to Yuma. We had also forgotten about all the people in Yuma. The roads were full, the stores were full and everything took just a little longer than we had expected.
By the time we had returned to Quartzsite it was in the afternoon and we had new arrivals. The arrivals are also bloggers. Peter and Bea had moved in. You can catch their blog at America-Travelers. We’ve certainly enjoyed meeting them. Who knows we may just crash their party in Holtville when we pull out of “Q”.
Saturday morning we had Mike and Deb moving out and Toni and Doug moving in. Mike and Deb were headed towards Scottsdale for a couple days but will certainly be back on Tuesday. At least that’s what Deb promised when they left.
So long to Mike and Deb. Hello to Doug and Toni. |
We’ve been awfully busy sitting around doing nothing. It’s amazing how much that takes out of you. We’ve found wood in town and purchased enough to get us by for a few nights. We certainly enjoy the campfires and have invited others to join us. I still say sitting in the desert with other RV’ers would not be complete without a campfire.
Just getting ready for the evening campfire. |
We’ve done a great job of turning our little clubhouse into a decorated tacky clubhouse. We’ve added lights, a sign and balloons. Saturday night we’re having a pot luck. We’ll see how that goes.
Tacky little clubhouse |
We’ve been sitting here over a week now. Actually we picked out our little spot on the BLM nine days ago with the Dixons. Then, it was just three of us sitting on this wide open space with no one else close. Since then we’ve had a few others join us. That’s usually what happens. We like others to join. We actually invite others to join. Most RV’ers are thoughtful and sharing. They share stories, adventures and campfires. It certainly is nice to add more to the campfire and your circle of RVing friends. Most of us want that and hope for that. However, every once in a while (thank goodness it’s rare) a few sparks fly. That’s another story and another campfire.
'Tis life on the road.
A few sparks?
ReplyDeleteSo that's how you light your campfires?
ReplyDeleteI heard that Q used to be covered in beautiful trees, then the RVers showed up with their desires for campfires and now the place is a desert. That must have meant there were a lot of roasted hotdogs and smores...

ReplyDeleteOops, sorry, double post. One of these days I'll get the hang of commenting...
ReplyDeleteIs Lee making the fires? The virtual one looks very warm!
ReplyDeleteGlad Toni and Doug arrived there safely. Hope you are all having a wonderful restful time!
Sparks? Daggers? All to be resolved very soon.
ReplyDeleteI've thoroughly enjoyed our little 'home' of the last week.
ReplyDeleteAnd we have been so lucky to meet with this wonderful group of RV'ers out here in the desert. I'm sure we'll meet again "down the road".
ReplyDeleteThanks for being nice neighbors.
