Our Own Celebrity RV Chef

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Tuesday morning we had breakfast catered from a personal chef. This wasn’t just any personal chef.  It was also a TV celebrity.  No, we’re not talking about Robert Irvine, Bobby Flay or even Gordon Ramsey.  It was Kay, the personal chef from Good Morning Nebraska.  Breakfast burritos had been specially made for our group and transported from Yuma.  It was a great treat and we sure did appreciate them.  Not many folks can actually say they have arranged something this special for their groups.  We go all out for ours.  Well, Kay is the one who really went all out for our group.  Our campfires are usually reserved for the evening but we figured this would also be a good time for a campfire.  And, we did just that.

By the way,  Kay and Dan are also part of our little group but they are in staying in Yuma instead of Quartzsite with us. She actually is the only celebrity among us.  Thanks, Kay!

January is definitely party month in Quartzsite.  Crowds of people are everywhere.  They fill up the restaurants, back up the roads, cause lines at grocery stores and even make the BLM look full.  It’s not as much fun to be in Quartzsite all by yourself though.  Most of the fun is getting together with others.  Sometimes you know the folks and sometimes you don’t.  There are always new friends to be made.  We’ve been doing just that.

With the crowds also come long lines at the dump.  The alternative is to hire a dumping service such as The Duck. The Duck will pump you out for a $35 fee.  Thus, there is no need to wait in the long lines.  We all make choices.   You can do it for free … what else is there to do?  Or, hand over a few bucks and have it done for you.

The crowds will continue to grow at least for another a week. Most of the get togethers happen before the Big Tent opens up.  When the Big Tent arrives so do the people.  When the Big Tent pulls out of town so will a lot of people.

Our game of musical coaches has continued.  Shortly after our special catered breakfast, Joe and Margarite pulled out for Phoenix.  Joe will be back but Margarite was off to New York.  Kimberly and Jerry from Hit the Road Jack blog pulled in.  We had not met Kimberly and Jerry but had followed their blog.  It’s always nice to meet fellow bloggers.  We understand Jerry was a little leery meeting us though.  Kimberly had him convinced we were a strange bunch.  She may be right.  However, I think she even went so far as to tell him we were part of the nudist group!! Believe me when I say THAT IS NOT SO!   I guess if they disappear one morning, we'll know we really did scare him off.

Later in the day we got together for our planned potluck.  We eat a lot but I guess that's obvious.

On Tuesdays there is a music jam in the BLM.  We had often talked about going but by the time Tuesday rolled around, we usually forgot about it.  This time we didn’t.  The sun was shining, the wind was calm and the music fantastic.  Next Tuesday we plan on going again.

Not everyone was awake and attentive at the music jam.  We caught one fellow nodding off.  We thought he must certainly be enjoying himself as the music just lulled him to sleep.

Haven't seen an accordian in years AND I used to play one.

Wednesday we had one more motorhome join our group.  It was that of Connie and Kenny.  They are friends of Marsha and Paul.  Marsha and Paul are in Texas this year instead of Arizona.  We promised we’d be nice to their friends.

Terry and Ed off to explore

Shopping at the Big Tent will probably be the most popular entertainment beginning next week. However, we do have a white board for other ideas. Anything planned gets written on the board. Interested participants just sign up. So far on Thursday we have a Windows Live Writer review scheduled plus a professional photographer will take a group picture, a trip to Castle Dome Ghost Town and Museum on Friday and the Desert Bar on Saturday. Everyone has to visit the Desert Bar at least once. It’s close to Parker but about 5 miles off the paved road and totally run by solar. It’s definitely a unique place.

That's the plan.  After that ….. well, everyone will soon start meandering to other places. It does sound like we will meeting up with Freddy and Delcie again in Yuma and Ed and Lyn at the Thousand Trails park in Palm Springs so the party won’t be quite over for a while yet.  It will just be relocated.

‘Tis life on the road.

  2. You didn't miss a thing...you are very thorough and still the best host we have ever encountered.

Thank you for making us feel so welcomed...we will not be sneaking out in the middle of the night any time soon. We are enjoying ourselves way too much! We have not laughed so much and so hard as we have the past few days around the campfires. Just a fabulous group of people!

  4. Your photographer is a celebrity, too. She just doesn't talk much about the photos she's taken and the places they are exhibited.

I love the whiteboard. Of course, I'd forget to go out and read it so would still miss stuff. But, less stuff than I am missing this year. Each Year's gathering always seems like the best one yet. What are we gonna do next year?

  5. I tried to warn Kimberly and Jerry about you guys but it appears they didn't listen to me. And now it's too late for them. Sounds like a fantastic time and a great group. You guys are so special (in a good way).
