Change of Neighbors

“Good friends, good books and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.” ` Mark Twain

We stopped “mooch-docking” a couple weeks ago.  When we stopped we changed neighbors.  In our previous location we became accustomed to the early morning visit when the neighbor was heading off to work.  We also became used to sharing a watermelon in the evening.  You know how things change.  Some things become routine.  Well, things were getting way too routine and comfortable.  My dad always used to say when company stays too long they start smelling like fish.  We probably smelled like fish to all the other neighbors around..

Now our early morning visitors happen to be the birds, the deer and an occasional feral cat.   bambiSometimes we find the deer standing by our door hoping to see activity.  They think that activity might lead to a handful of wet cob.  I’m thinking wet cob to them is like blackberry or rhubarb pie to me.

It also makes me wonder how some hunters call themselves hunters when all they do is offer to feed the animal and then they shoot it.  Is that really a sport?  I think it’s cheesy.

Even though we aren’t as close to town as we used to be it doesn’t mean we don’t head that way often. We visit the old neighbors but we have to twist their arm to get them to visit us. We’re also still making our way too many trips to Home Depot, Wal-Mart and looking for stuff in the motorhome.  Occasionally we even get to stop off at a great restaurant or two for a super lunch.  Such was the case when we were in Longview and stopped at Masthead Restaurant.  The restaurant was packed.  There’s obviously a reason for this. It's not the entertainment since they have none.   It’s the food and especially their phenomenal seafood chowder!

After the fireworks we brought our granddaughter, Sandi, back to the “cabin” with us.  She was our first overnight guest.  In the morning we hit the pool.  It wasn’t a long walk.  It took us about 60 seconds to get there.  After all it’s on our back 40 or so we say.

After the pool we walked around the corner.  I wanted to show her the view.  Maybe I really wanted to see the view again myself.  It would be hard to think someone could get tired of looking at this.  Mt. St. Helens is in the background.  As Sandi said, it’s breathtaking.

Remember our little Williams Hideaway sign?  Terry just finished moving it to it’s new location … above the door on the “cabin”.  There's a little more painting to do here and there but that part is almost done.

There's a lot more we want to do but we've decided much of it can just wait until next year.  We'll be heading north to the Port Angeles area for our annual family reunion soon.  Then, we're thinking it's time to head down the Oregon coast.  It's kind of exciting to think about getting on the road again.

That’s it, folks.  ‘Tis life on the road.
