There are lots of people who mistake their imagination for their memory.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROBERT. Yes ... we have another birthday in our family. At this time of year we have quite a few. We have three of them within five days. This time it's Robert's term ... Tammi's husband.
There are several online sites that will help you find unusual places to stop along your route north or south. One pretty popular site is Roadside America. If you’re looking for weird, you might find it on their website. Eccentric America is another site you might find interesting. The unusual places seem to be the most fun because some can really be weird. Another website is Squidoo’s Weird Tourist Attractions. Want more interesting sites? Try this one for ten more of the weirdest places to visit. Isn’t the internet wonderful?

A very popular place to visit is Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. This is a place you can spot Cadillacs planted in a pasture with the trunk of the cars in the ground. The hoods are visible and they are all spray painted colors with designs you’d probably never want on your vehicle.
What about the Minus 5 Ice Bar in Las Vegas? Ever been there? You might just want to check it out next time you visit. Everything inside is made of ice; the walls, the bar, the sculptures, the seats and even the glasses that you drink from. Another spot is in South Dakota. It’s Devil’s Gulch. If you are interested in seeing where Jesse James jumped and killed himself, add it to your bucket list.
Some water towers get very creative. Such is one in Gaffney, SC. It’s the Peachoid Water Tower. This water tower looks like the perfect peach and attracts many gawkers to check it out. A lot of paint and man-hours were required in getting this peach just right. It took 50 gallons of paint and 20 different colors and now it really looks like a very big peach. The water tower holds 1 million gallons of water.
Ever seen the Leaning Tower of Pisa? If not, there’s another one you can check out in Niles, Illinois. It’s not as big as the original one in Italy and this one is another water tower. Take your picture by it. Folks will think you’re in Italy. It even leans like the one it was made to look like.
Canada has quite a few interesting places to visit too. One of those is in Watson Lake, Yukon. It’s the Signpost Forest. This forest of signposts has been around for about 70 years. It’s a case where one sign led to another and now there are over 64,000 signs. Anyone leave their sign there?
Gilbert, AZ is considering harvesting dog poop (no pictures here). They are wanting to convert the dog waste from a popular dog park into methane to power the park’s street lamp. It won’t be the first place to convert dog poop to power. A public dog park in Massachusetts was the first to convert the poop to power a street lamp. San Francisco is also getting on the band wagon and is offering doggie bags for folks to use and place in collection cans while they research the many uses. Cattle farms already convert waste into power. Why can’t the cities do this too?
That’s not all that is being recycled. Did you know that astronauts have been drinking from a machine that converts urine into water? Or, did you know that the military also uses a machine to convert urine into drinking water for soldiers. I read it here. It’s on the internet so it just has to be true.
‘Tis not life on the road today. Thus, the fill-in blog but at this point I need to get busy because this is my last one availabile.
That was a cool post. I'm going to check out some of those "weird" sites. I like offbeat stuff. Wish they could find a way to convert dog waste to gasoline haha!!
ReplyDeleteI marked some of those sites, too.
ReplyDeleteI write fill-in posts then forget to post them. I wonder how many I have now? :)
I have a couple of those "fill-in" posts hanging around. Unfortunately I think I'll have to wait until the passing of a considerable length of time before I post them.
ReplyDeleteThe city of Vienna converts all their garbage into energy to provide power and heat, so I'm sure there's some doggie doo in there somewhere.
An interesting fill-in post with lots of interesting things to check out.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Robert. Boy, you've found some sites I haven't got on my list. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Robert and to the rest of those I may have missed.
ReplyDeleteI'm always impressed by the ingenuity of bloggers like yourself who come up with interesting 'filler blogs' - good job.
I use several of those websites when we are visiting an area. Never hear of Eccentric America...on my list now.
ReplyDeleteA very happy birthday to Robert! Hope he enjoys his special day.
